The Story So Far...

5 months from 0 lines of code to SOTA text-to-CAD and $4.8M in funding

The entire world is changing as we know it. We saw this and decided to build a tool that allows every engineer to do their best work. If this excites you, come help out!.

At Camfer, we’re building the world’s first AI mechanical engineer.

We’re working towards a future where engineers can have Camfer do design tasks end-to-end. With high level commands like, “Hey Camfer, design a gearbox w/ a 3:1 ratio for this motor!”, our agents will autonomously design the system, source off-the-shelf parts, and create drawings to be sent off for manufacturing. Camfer should be able to design a mug as well as it can design a rocket engine. With our tool, engineers should be able to optimize any design for any metric (cost, weight, manufacturability, etc.) and do it instantly. Engineers shouldn’t have to compromise either, Camfer should integrate seamlessly into their existing workflows and industry-standard tools.

This is our vision. We want to start by empowering engineers to do their best work without friction. We’re building towards a future where anyone can design anything with just an idea. We are definitely not there yet, but in 5 months and just a team of 3 we’ve made a lot of progress.

We’re a small team of software devs and researchers who have a love for CAD and design. We’re FRC world champions, UC Berkeley alumni / researchers, UC Riverside dropouts, ex-AWS, and ex-Meta.

We came up with the vision for Camfer in April 2024 sitting in a hammock at UC Berkeley. A month later, we were admitted into YC, quit our jobs, and began seriously building.

Since then, we’ve built a SOTA text-to-cad tool that designs natively in popular CAD platforms, won YC’s internal demo day, won OpenAI’s o1 hackathon, and raised $4.8 million from YC, Next47, Bloomberg Beta, Octave Fund, and the founders of Dropbox, Airtable, and Clari.

To make our vision a reality, we’re building a small team of highly curious and talented technologists, researchers, and engineers. You’ll be joining a team that’s solving SOTA problems, surrounded by passionate people who love learning and building.
